US ambassador in Cairo nominated to be envoy to Israel

US secretary of state Madeline Albright has recommended that the current U.S ambassador to Cairo, Edward Walker, be appointed as Washington's envoy to Israel.
Walker would succeed Martin Indyk, who is waiting for senate confirmation of his appointment as assistant secretary of state for Near Eastern affairs, Al Ahrar said today.
