Students to serve as soldiers in Sudan
Sudan, Military, 8/30/1997
Abdul Basit Sibdrat, the Sudanese minister of justice, said his government will send students to the war zones in the East and South.
The statement comes despite previous assurance from government officials who said that students at the compulsory service camps would not be sent to the war zones. Sebdrat said that some of the students who received military training may be sent to battle groups if the need arises.
"Observers consider Sebdrat's statements as an official assurance for sending students, without adequate military training to the battle grounds," Al Khartoum daily reported an opposition figure as saying today.
