UNESCO denounces violence in Algeria

Fedrico Mayor, the manager of United Nations Education, Science and Culture Organization denounced violence activities which prevail in Algeria, that targets journalists, actors, artists, authors, and intellectuals.

He denounced also the assassination of Ali Tankhi the cinema director in Algiers' outskirts.

Mayor said in a statement that Algeria's cultural life was endangererd again under an extremist coup especially after the assassination of Ali Tankhi. He stated that UNESCO must denounce the violence against filmmakers, journalists and authors because they are trying to overcome the difficult circumstances they encounter.

Mayor denounced also the violence that has recently wracked Algeria and said that the Algerian people can't accept the crimes and continuous slaughters that terrorists are trying to impose it on it, Al Ahrar daily reported yesterday.

The most recent attack in Algeria claimed 300 lives in Rais, near the Algerian capital, yesterday.
