Nubian Museum to display Egypt's oldest skeleton
Egypt, History, 8/30/1997
5,000 ancient antiques are expected to go on display in the Nubian Museum, which Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak will open in October. In addition, the Museum will exhibit the oldest skeleton found in Egypt.
Dr. Ibrahim El-Nawawi, chief of the scientific committee supervising the project, said the skeleton was found by a German excavating mission in the Wadi El-Kobbania area, western desert, in 1982. The skeleton dates back more than 20,000 years. When found, it was sent for a year to the US where it underwent comprehensive studies.
A model of the skeleton was also made in the US, and both the skeleton and its model will go on display in the Nubian Museum, he added.
During the stone age, people lived in the Nile Valley and set up a primitive civilization in the area where the skeleton was found, Nawawi said. He told reporters yesterday about the skeleton's era and showed how it was flourishing with human life and activity.
