Undersecretary of taxes resigns after police beat him

Abdul Kader Mohamed, undersecretary of the tax department, tendered his resignation to the minister of finance after being beaten by the police.

In his letter of resignation Mohamed said that the state had entrusted him with the most sensitive job and instead of protecting him, it stained his reputation. He said that he did not expect that assaults would come from the police. He added that in spite of the bitterness of the situation, "I ordered my staff to be calm" and that he considered the assault an individual incident.

He said he gave an adequate time to the authorities in order to investigate and penalize the aggressors, but there was no sign of a positive more till now, El Youm daily reported on August 28.
