Sudanese regime honors no pledges, Merghani says
Sudan, Military, 8/26/1997
Al Sayed Mohamed El Merghani, leader of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and Chief of the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP), told reporters that the ruling Sudanese regime doesn't honor pledges or conventions, adding that the acceptance of the regime to the IGAAD declaration of principles is a sort of cunning and an attempt to gain time.
El-Merghani confirmed the cohesion of the various factions of the NDA at the political, military and trade union levels. He said the factions united for the overthrow of the regime and the restoration of freedom and democracy and the realization of peace and unity according to the resolutions of the Asmara conference on basic issues which laid dawn radical solutions for all the Sudanese problems and specifically the southern problem, Al-Khartoum daily said today.
