Jordan denies dam agreement with Israel
Jordan, Politics, 8/26/1997
Jordan said yesterday it had no intentions whatsoever to build a dam with Israel on Al-Yarmouk River in Syria's occupied Al-Hamat area.
Jordanian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Fayez El-Tarawna, announced Jordan would reconsider the construction of a dam on Yarmouk River in collaboration with Israel, if the latter insisted on building it on the Syrian occupied area called Al-Hamat, Al-Ahram paper said today.
Meanwhile, Israeli Water Commissioner Ma'eer bin Ma'eer emphasized yesterday to Israel's Ha'aretz newspaper that Jordan had already agreed on constructing a dam on the Yarmouk at the edge of Al Hamat, southeast of Tabaria Lake, an arms-free-zone in the Golan heights, Al-Ahram added.
