Strange circular objects in Bekaa sky
Lebanon, Military, 8/21/1997

Alarmed residents of the Bekaa on August 20 reported seeing strange circular objects in the sky, sparking in a scare that visitors who had arrived from another world were suddenly taking an interest in their affairs.

The small discs were seen maneuvring through the sky along the length of the Bekaa and police stations were inundated with calls by apprehensive, curious and bemused members of the public.

However, there was apparently a more down-to-earth explanation for the objects' arrival according to a military source. He said that the objects were a new unmanned reconnaissance vehicle or drone which was being tested by the Israeli army.

"The Israelis are changing their drones. The ones we are familiar with from last April are now being replaced by smaller and more accurate versions," he explained.

Whether this explanation will offer very much reassurance to the residents of the Bekaa remains to be seen.
