Senior Israeli officials: Damascus seeks peace
Syria, Politics, 8/20/1997
The head of the Israeli army intelligence agency, Major General M. Yaloun, stated that Syria up till now has abided by its self-control policy regarding Hizbullah activities in south Lebanon, Al-Ahram newspaper said today.
Today in a session held by the foreign and security committee, affiliated with the Israeli Knesset, Yaloun said he did not regard independent acts taking place without previous instructions from Damascus as impossible, the newspaper added.
To restore the Golan Heights, Syria still favors political solutions, yet it works at other levels, like establishing ties with Iran, in order to prove its ability to restore the occupied land by force, said Yaloun.
