In response to Israeli shelling of Sidon: Katyushas bombard north Israel
Lebanon, Military, 8/20/1997
Hizbullah fighters yesterday attacked north Israel and the occupied border strip with 80 Katyusha rockets in response to Israeli shelling leading to the deaths of 10 and injuries to another 43 civilians in Sidon, south Lebanon, on Monday August, 18. Some Israelis were injured.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netynyahu warned he would take revenge for those "civilian spirits," and cancel an agreement signed last year between Israel and Hizbullah according to which civilians are not to be targeted.
Meanwhile, Netanyahu's supporters called for bombarding Lebanese civilian facilities.
United Nations Secretary General, Kofi Annan expressed his deep concern about resuming violence in the area and urged all parties to control themselves.
