Golan citizens' faith rejuvenated by recent meeting with Assad
Syria, Politics, 8/19/1997

Syrian citizens in the Golan Heights have expressed pride over the fruitful results of the visit paid by Palestinians and a controversial delegation of Israeli Arabs to Syria and over their meeting with the Syrian president.

In a statement issued on August 18, the citizens said that a delegation from the National Front in the Golan, representing the villages of Majda Dhams, Beq'ata, Massadeh and Ein Qenya, visited a number of the Palestinian personalities, who expressed the need for the continuation of contacts with Arabs in Palestine. The statement asserted that any artificial barriers made by Israeli occupiers would not obliterate their longing or defeat their struggle.

The statement added, "We have felt that our people are deeply affected by their visit to Damascus and meeting with president Assad.

"We also approve of the Palestinian delegation's response to Syria's stand, which calls for liberating the occupied Golan and South Lebanon and upholding the rights of the Palestinian people."
