Egypt to perform Tunes from the East in Samarkand

A team of Egyptian artists will leave Cairo next Sunday to visit Uzbekistan, where they will represent Egypt in the first oriental music festival to be held in the Uzbek city of Samarkand. The festival, which will open on Monday, August 25, will run till September 2.
The Egyptian delegation was chosen from the Cairo Arab Music Institution, Dr. Fat'hi Abdel Rahman El Khamissy told reporters. Dr. Khamissy, who leads the delegation, was also chosen to be on the festival's jury.
The festival, which is co-sponsored by the UNSCD and the Uzbek president Islam Karimov, is entitled "Tunes from the East."
