Iraq asks European Union to put pressure on the United Nations to lift embargo
Iraq, Politics, 8/13/1997
Tareq Aziz, the Iraqi deputy prime minister, said on August 12 in an interview with a Spanish newspaper that Iraq was unhappy with the oil-for-food program because there are more than 150 contracts for food purchased but still semi-paralyzed in America due to the position of the North American delegation. He called on the United States and British delegations to put pressure on the United Nations to lift trade sanctions imposed after Iraqi¹s invasion of Kuwait.
Meanwhile under the UN program, eight Russian firms are in Baghdad for talks, already they signed two deals and several more are expected soon.
