Egypt, History, 8/13/1997
A Supreme Council of Antiquities (SCA) mission has located a group of important archaeological documents and manuscripts dating back to the Fatimid era in Fayoum governorate, upper Egypt.
SCA chief Ali Hassan said the mission working in the Dier El Malak area, Fayoum governorate, found a group of manuscripts and papyrus dating back to the Fatimed era, clarifying that they are written in simple Kufi handwriting. The documents include purchase sale contracts.
The find is of paramount importance as it sheds light on the form of trade relations during that era.
Dr. Hassan noted that there is more than one team looking for treasures in the area, adding that the current excavation works in the governorrate have resulted in locating the remains of a body, artifacts and ceramics and paper items.
The archaeological missions working there have also found the remains of a city situated on a high plateau and more than 100 tombs, he added.
Work is still underway to discover more antiquities, which will provide new information on this important period of Egypt¹s history, he remarked.
