Arab and African organizations support the Libyan stance on Lockerbie
Libya, Politics, 8/13/1997
The Libyan dispute with the United States and Britain over the Lockerbie issue may be turning into a pan-Arab issue.
According to a London Times report, the British government is considereing a claim, made by an Iranian convicted of a killing in Germany, that Iran was behind the bombing, not Libya, but even with that claim and possible new developments from last week's visit to Libya by a British delegation, Britian denies that it's "softening" its demand that the Libyans be tried in Britain.
Arab and African organizations support the Libyan stance calling for a trial to the suspected Libyan agents by an international tribunal in a neutral state.
In a related issue, an Egyptian lawyer has decided to step in. He sent a request to the Libyan leader Moammer Gaddafi to join the board of lawyers and law experts set to defend the Libyan suspects.
