Iraqi spies detained in Iran
Iraq, Politics, 8/12/1997
Four accused spies, including two Iraqis, were detained in southwestern Iran last week, Iranian intelligence agencies said.
The four spies entered Iran illegally and helped the Mugahidi Khalk organization, which is considered one of the biggest armed movements that oppose the Iranian regime, and which takes Iraq as its headquarters.
A well-informed official , who refused to give any further details , stated the spies' mission was to help some important members of Mugahidi movement go out of Tahran.
This comes few days after statements by Iraqi president Saddam Hussein calling on Iran to prove that it wants to improve its relation with Baghdad, as stated by the newly elected Iranian president.
