Arab League condemns Israeli threats against Syria
Regional, Politics, 8/11/1997
The Arab League (AL) condemned on August 10 Israeli threats against Syria, the continuation of Israeli aggression against Lebanon and Israeli occupation forces' shelling of populated Lebanese areas.
The AL Assistant Secretary General for Arab Affairs, Ahmed bin Huli, said the constant Israeli threats against Syria illustrate Israel's expansionist intentions and perpetuation of aggression in violation of international legitimacy resolutions and UN resolutions.
In a press statement issued on August 10, the AL official reiterated all Arab countries' support and full backing for Syria's pan-Arab stance calling for the full restoration of the occupied Golan to Syrian sovereignty.
Anything that might hurt Syria would hurt the Arabs, he stressed, adding that Arab countries reject Israeli measures which undermine legitimate Arab rights.
Bin Huli expressed the hope that the next US sanction will effectively boost the peace process, resetting it on a track which is based on the implementation of international legitimacy resolutions.
