Iraqi delegation to Lebanon back on track
Iraq-Lebanon, Politics, 8/11/1997

A visit by an Iraqi industrial delegation, postponed because of last monthıs Pan-Arab games controversy, should be confirmed this week, says industrialists' association president Jacques Sarraf.

Iraqi chamber of industry president Adnan Qodsi on August 10 disclosed that the invitation from Lebanonıs association was under consideration.

Sarraf expected confirmation to arrive during the week, saying he felt, "The Iraqi authorities have gotten over the problem of the Pan Arab Games."

Iraq canceled a visit by an industrial delegation after the government refused to admit Iraqi athletes traveling overland from Syria into the country for the games, due to Saudi and Kuwaiti positions.

But Iraqi authorities allowed the rescheduling of the Syrian component of the visit for August 18.

He said that the Iraqis were interested in pursuing joint ventures with their Lebanese counterparts, in order to gain needed technology and know-how.

Meanwhile, a friendly Lebanon-Iraq football match has been scheduled for August 21, while an Iraqi volleyball team will participate in the tournament in Syria on August 12.
