Lebanon, Local, 8/8/1997
In a rare move among journalists in Lebanon, a publisher on August 7 filed a lawsuit against another for defamation, the National News Agency said.
Gibran Tuwayni, publisher and chief editor of the daily Al Nahar, claimed that Hassan Sabra, publisher and chief editor of the weekly Al-Shiraa, had run an article defaming him and loaded with threats against his life.
He demanded that Sabrašs director Ghazi Maqhour and the writer of the article, Ali Hassan Srour, pay 10 billion Lebanese pounds in damages.
He said that he would give the money to the families of journalists killed while on duty.
