Israeli closures can't stop wedding
Palestine, Local, 8/7/1997
A Palestinian couple refused to let Israeli roadblocks stand in the way of their marriage. The husband, Mohmoud, who declined to give his family name, said he and his bride drove along dusty side roads in the West Bank to evade Israeli checkpoints blocking off Palestinian travel between towns and villages.
Israel imposed a closure on the West Bank and Gaza Strip in the aftermath of a double-suicide bombing in a Jerusalem market last week.
"We did not postpone the wedding," said Mahmoud, 35, who traveled 12 miles to reach his bride in her village near Ramallah. "Reaching Kharbatha village and bringing the bride was like a military operation. We went along side-roads to escape the eyes of Israeli soldiers until we accomplished what we desired," he said.
