30,000 Egyptians working in Lebanon
Lebanon-Egypt, Economics, 8/6/1997

At a news conference in Lebanon today, Minister of Labor Assad Hardan and his Egyptian counterpart disclosed the details of the discussions concerning the implementation of the 1993 labor agreement between the two countries.

Delegates from the two countries met at the presidential palace to form committees to prepare agreements on politics, trade, economics and security.

Egypt¹s Prime Minister Kamal al Janzouri arrives in the wake of a controversial decision to increase customs duties on a range of agricultural imports in order to reduce the food deficit.

As for labor issues, an unpublicized agreement among various ministries has reportedly ordered a security force crackdown on illegal foreign laborers in Lebanon to be launched on August 9.

After the meeting Hardan said many issues were discussed and resolved regarding the estimated 30,000 Egyptians working in Lebanon.
