Jordanian parliament elections on November 4
Jordan, Politics, 8/6/1997
The Jordanian government announced that Jordan will hold parliamentary elections on November 4.
The largest opposition party, the Islamic Action Front (which holds 15 seats in the 80-seat parliament), said that it would boycott the elections to protest the government's policies, including its 1994 peace treaty with Israel.
The front is the political arm of the Muslim Brotherhood movement. The government said it would meet brotherhood representatives in a bid to persuade them to participate in the elections.
