Iranian rebels attacked in Iraq
Iran, Military, 7/31/1997
Iran's main armed opposition group, the People's Mujahedeen, came under rocket attack on July 30 at one of its bases near the Iranian border in Southern Iraq, the group said.
Blaming Iranian forces which infiltrated the border, the Mujahedeen said "Katyusha" rockets were fired during the overnight attack on its base near Al-Kut.
Mujahedeen "security patrols rapidly arrived at the site of the attack and the assailants fled. None of the rockets hit the target and landed in the surrounding fields and residential areas," it said.
The group, which operates out of Iraq made no mention of causalities.
