Israelis escalate attacks on Lebanese areas
Lebanon, Military, 7/30/1997

The Israeli occupation forces expanded their attacks on the areas adjacent to the Israeli occupied strip in South Lebanon on July 29.

Security sources said that Israeli heavy artillery positions at al Zafateh, al Eishieh and al Jormoq pounded the deserted army barracks, Ghandour Palace at Nabatieh and the outskirts of al Nabatieh and al Fawqa.

Later the Israeli shelling expanded to include the areas of Aqmata Farm, Sajad, al Reihan, Mita al Lweizeh, Touleen, Qabrikha and al Salouki valley. On July 29 afternoon, the Lebanese National Resistance announced that one of its groups blew off an explosive charge on the side road to al Qantara town, where a Lahd militia patrol was driving on the way.

Meanwhile the UNIFIL forces came under Israeli fire on July 29, when two Israeli shells fell only few meters from the UNIFIL position at Qabrikha. Citizens in the occupied Lebanese village of Maron al Ras denounced the Israeli siege against the village. They issued a statement saying the Israeli forces arrested several people in the village.
