Ban on petrol tankers angers owners
Lebanon, Business, 7/24/1997
The Lebanese association of gas station owners called on officials to reverse decisions on regulating tankers that pose a public hazard.
An association spokesman called an Interior Ministry decision to limit trucks and tankers to using public roads from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. "unfair," since it did not make a distinction between different types of vehicles.
"Trucks carrying gravel, dirt, iron and other materials and do not pose a danger if they stop on roads or in public places. But if this happens with fuel carriers, we can consider them time bombs," the spokesman said. The association is going to ask the government for a decision on this matter in order to make the law more specific.
Editors note: The government made a decision to limit the receipt of fuel oil and some petrol from Tripoli and Sidon.
