Japanese peacekeepers asked to remain in Golan

Syrian president Hafez al-Assad had talks with Japanese Defense Minister Fumio Kyuma yesterday about extending for two more years the term of Japanese troops in a UN peacekeeping force in the Golan Heights.
Syrian Spokesman Joubran Koureih told reporters that Defense Minister Lieutenant General Mustafa Tlas was at the meeting at the presidential palace in the Syrian Capital.
