Netanyahu announces plans to build a hotel on the Golan
Israel, Politics, 7/21/1997

Israeli Prime minister Netanyahu, celebrating 30 years of Jewish settlement on the Golan heights, announced plans to build a hotel on the Israeli-held plateau.

Speaking to settlers on the Heights captured from Syria in 1967, Netanyahu claimed late on Thursday, " the future of the Golan is linked to the future of Israel and we prefer generally to speak less and do more."

"We are renovating the Arik bridge so it will be easier to travel. That too we decided today, and among other things we approved the establishment of a hotel in Hammat Gader," he said, referring to a holiday spot on the Golan.

Settlers at the Golan rally jeered Labor opposition leader Ehud Barak when he embraced the land for peace offer made to Arabs by murdered Labor Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin.

"I haven't come to instill delusions of a peace without a price, a deluxe peace without concessions of compromises and though dilemmas. To my regret there is no such thing as that and whoever will tell you otherwise is dealing in slogans and delusion," Barak said.
