Bahrain arson death
Bahrain, Local, 7/9/1997
A Bangladeshi man died in a hospital on July 8, raising the death toll from recent arson fires in Bahrain to two.
One Bangladeshi worker had previously died when a group of people set a store ablaze on July 5 in Sitra, linked with Manama by a 3 km causeway.
Four Bahraini suspects were arrested. The fire was one of several recent arson attacks in Bahrain, the Gulf's main financial and baking center and headquarters of the US fifth fleet, which patrols the Gulf region.
Meanwhile a restaurant was destroyed on July 8 in an apparent arson attack. Members of the Island's majority Shiite community have waged sporadic protests, bombings and arson attacks since December 1994 to press the Sunni-led government to reforms.
