Iran criticizes Amr Mousa on disputed islands with UAE
Regional-Iran, Politics, 3/31/2008
Three Iranian Islands in the Persian Gulf are inseparable part of Iranian territory, Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman Mohammad Ali Hosseini said yesterday.
He strongly refuted statement made by Arab League chief Amr Mousa that he put on the agenda of Summit of Arab Leaders the
misunderstanding between Iran and the United Arab Emirates. Hosseini said such allegations are regarded as interference in Iran's domestic affairs.
Interfering of third parties in a misunderstanding between Iran and UAE which could be resolved through talks is not helpful, he underlined.
The islands are being claimed by both Iran and the UAE, and a recent top official visit from the UAE apparently did not lead to any positive results on resolving this issue if this subject was discussed.
Hosseini highlighted the existing problems faced by the Muslim world mainly in the Middle East, continued atrocities of Israel in Gaza, wide scale attacks to Islamic identities and said that raising irrelevant and unreal issues only deviates the summit and is beyond its credit.
It is necessary for all countries to adopt an actual stand in dealing with historical realities in the region and help forge unity and solidarity in the region, Hosseini underlined.
21st Arab Summit wound up on Sunday after one week of activities in Syria's capital of Damascus.
Mottaki said that Amr Mousa statement was totally baseless and unfounded. Secretary General for Arab League Amr Mousa had said that Iran-UAE misunderstanding on the three Iranian islands has been put on agenda of the Summit.
Mottaki told reporters that said in our meeting with other Arab leaders they indicated a different stand in dealing with the issue and even the UAE's officials did not point to the issue.
