Saudi Arabia-Iran, Politics, 3/5/2008
Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Saul al-Faisal on Monday called for convergence of Iranian and Saudi officials on regional developments.
In a meeting with Iran's Ambassador to Riyadh, Mohammad Hosseini, he termed the current situation in the region as "sensitive." Referring to great potentials in both Iran and Saudi Arabia, he called for further expansion of bilateral and regional cooperation.
The regional states are capable of settling the crisis facing their own region said stressing "Tehran and Riyadh shoulder heavy responsibility in that regard." As to the recent atrocity of Israel in the occupied Palestine, the Iranian envoy said the US and its ally, Israel, are trying to annihilate all Muslim nations.
On foreign intervention in the region, he said the history has indicated that the foreign forces seek nothing but to plunder Muslims wealth. The foreigners have always tried to sow discord among regional states, Hosseini reiterated.
Submitting a written message from Iran's Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki to his Saudi counterpart, the Iranian envoy briefed the Saudi official on the latest developments in Iran's peaceful nuclear program particularly the recent report by the International Atomic Energy Agency on Iran's nuclear case.
The IAEA Director General Mohamed ElBaradei verified the non-diversion of Iran peaceful nuclear program in his latest report to the agency's Board of Governors released on February 22.
He said in the 11-page report, "We have managed to clarify all the remaining outstanding issues, which are the scope and nature of Iran's enrichment program."
