Iran hopes home-made satellite in orbit next summer

Iran last Tuesday dismissed the US concern over Iranian scientific progress and said that the launch of Explorer-1 into the space has been for research studies.

Government spokesman, Gholam-Hossein Elham said that Iran's recent technological and scientific victories should not be cause of concern for others.

He said, "The government is responsible for progress and development of the country and is not responsible for others' concern."

The White House gave negative signal to Iranian scientific progress of launching research unit (Explorer 1) into the space terming it as a ballistic missile.

IRNA scientific correspondent said that the space center inaugurated in Iran on Monday is in the satellite category for scientific research and has nothing to do with ballistic missile.

Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadi-Nejad said Monday Iran will launch two more space rockets in the future.

Ahmadi-Nejad said, "Two more complementary rockets will be launched and we hope that with God's grace, the first fully home-made satellite will hence be in the orbit next summer."

Ahmadi-Nejad said the first such rocket was launched with full success. He said presence in the space is today a requisite for honorable life of a nation because all major scientific competitions take place in the space and all the scientific, geographic, telecommunication, photo and communication information are obtained through the space.

He then pointed to a joint satellite project Iran undertook with Russia, which he said is one of the most complicated technologies on earth.
