Egyptian scholar welcomes Haddad's visit plan
Egypt-Iran, Politics, 1/22/2008

Former Deputy Head of Al-Az'har University and current head of Egypt's Center for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thoughts Sheikh Mahmoud Abdol-Qani on Monday welcomed Iran's Parliament Speaker's plan to visit Egypt.

Gholam-Ali Haddad-Adel is scheduled to arrive in Cairo on January 31st to participate at Islamic Countries Inter-Parliamentary Union (ICIPU).

Meanwhile, a member of the Islamic Countries Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (ICESCO) Supreme Consultative Council, Sheikh Mahmoud Ashour, too, emphasized here Monday that such visits can lead to strengthening ties and problem solving between two most important, major countries of the Islamic World.

According to him, "Iran, too, like Egypt has a rich civilization and an ancient culture, and when the representatives of two ancient cultures meet one another we can expect miracles to take place, which is what the Islamic Ummah (nation) is now in dire need of." Sheikh Ashour meanwhile reiterated, "Haddad Adel is a renowned personality and is popular among the Egyptians, that typically love the Iranians." He said, "Haddad's visit would leave a positive effect on bilateral relations, that have recently gone through noticeable improvement." Ashour expressed hope that Iran-Egypt relations would improve and expand in all possible fields, adding, "That would benefit the entire regional countries, as well as the objective of proximity among followers of Islamic schools of thought, because these two countries are both pioneers in that respect." He said, "It was based on that assumption that the Center for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought was re-established in Egypt, and the initiative was broadly welcomed by Iranian officials, just as a number of them were present at the opening ceremony of the center."

The Egyptian ICESCO official stressed, "Cairo's Center of Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought publishes periodicals in which there are articles that stress the point that Shiite school is not what some have in mind as a result of the poisonous propagation of the enemies of Islam, but a school as authentic, and prestigious as any other authentic Islamic school of thought."
