President: Iran nuclear issue closed politically
Iran-UN, Politics, 12/18/2007

Leadership envoy in Iran's Supreme National Security Council Ali Larijani yesterday called for resumption of the so-called G5+1 talks with Iran on the nuclear issue.

Talking to reporters, Larijani said, "The time is ripe for our partners not to waste time and for the G5+1 to start talks with Iran."
Larijani said the Iran-IAEA plan of action will come to an end by the next few months. "The plan of action is a good way and it was the most important work base which managed to relieve their concerns on the past and present condition of Iran's nuclear issue." He said, "The next step is that they should raise in talks other issues, if any."
Asked about French president Nicholai Sarkozy's claim that Israel ill possibly launch strike on Iran, Larijani said it a play game.
He said Sarkozy had said other things earlier too.

Iran is ready to hold unconditional talks with the 5+1 Group, Foreign Ministry spokesman, Mohammad-Ali Hosseini, said on Sunday.
Commenting on a recent statement of the former nuclear negotiator, Ali Larijani, that grounds are now prepared for Iran to hold direct talks with the 5+1 Group, Hosseini said, "Mr. Larijani announced that it would be good to resume the talks given the current atmosphere."
Asked about the next round of talks between Secretary of Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Saeed Jalili and the EU foreign policy chief, Javier Solana, the spokesman said, "Nothing new happened in this connection. The two were to have a phone contact but this has not happened."

Hosseini did not explain whether Jalili-Solana talks had not resumed due to lack of the latter's faithfulness to his previous commitments. "We have no analysis in this connection."

The spokesman added that during the latest talks with Solana, "It was the other side (Solana) who explicitly opposed to previous plans. "However, it was announced that meetings and telephone contacts would continue."

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Kislyak said Saturday that Iran's nuclear activities are fully under supervision of IAEA in reference to the clean bill of health Iran got from International Atomic Energy Agency on November 15.

He told reporters that IAEA has verified Iran's nuclear program monitoring Iranian activities and it is not possible for them to enrich uranium at higher degree.

Rejecting the allegation made by US national intelligence estimates (NIE) that Iran had weapons program before 2003, he said that Russia doubts the possibility Iran had weapons program before 2003.

Russia has delivered its first shipment of nuclear fuel to a reactor it is helping to build at Bushehr in Iran, The BBC reported on Monday, quoting Russian foreign ministry.

The US Department Of State deputy spokesman Tom Casey said today that "The fact that Iran has a guaranteed source of fuel that's economically viable, that would allow it to achieve its supposed objectives through its civilian nuclear program makes it pretty clear to most of us that there really isn't a need for them to be moving forward with these kinds of activities, again, unless their ultimate intention is to use it to build a nuclear weapon."

Iran has indicated that it does not trust the reliability of foreign suppliers of a critical source of fuel and wants to master the technology for its own needs, which the US is greatly fearful off and is working against.

Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadi-Nejad said Sunday that Iran has never considered itself in the defendant position with regards to its nuclear issue. "Speaking about the nuclear issue, I have never used 'nuclear problem or nuclear dossier', rather -- I have emphasized -- 'nuclear issue'. That's a key point. We have never considered ourselves in the defendant position internationally," said President Ahmadi-Nejad in a live televised debate.

The president also said he would in appropriate time disclose some untold stories about the nuclear issue.

He said that Iran's nuclear issue has come to an end politically, and that there is consensus that Iran's case should be pursued only at the International Atomic Energy Agency.

He said the nuclear issue, which was "the toughest battle and challenge" of his government over the past couple of years, was a great event and more valuable than nationalization of the oil industry.

He added that the success had promoted status of the Iranian nation on the international level.
