Palestinians renew allegiance to Hamas
Palestine, Politics, 12/18/2007

Hamas marked the 20th anniversary of its founding with a huge rally Saturday, sending a message of strength and resistance to liberate Palestine's territories from Israeli occupation. Hamas supporters took to the streets, waving green Islamic flags.

Iranian Member of Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Heshmatollah Falahatpisheh said on Sunday that the Palestinian people have renewed allegiance to Hamas leadership. He said that it was a show of strong support for the Hamas resistance movement to liberate the occupied territories.

Falahatpisheh said that having won majority of votes in parliamentary elections in January 2006, Hamas managed to form a government but the opposition could not tolerate it. He said that despite enemies' economic blockade against the Gaza strip and the hardship it imposed on 1.5 million Palestinians living in Gaza, Hamas has managed to maintain public confidence and trust.

The World Bank, in a statement, expressed concern over the hardship Israel imposed on 1.5 million Palestinians living in Gaza strip by the economic blockade it enforced since last June.

He added that all influential and distinguished political figures support Hamas. Hamas insists on repatriation of Palestinian refugees to the occupied lands.

The United Nations Security Council has issued numerous resolutions requiring Israel to end occupation of Palestinian lands it seized in 1967.
