Iran's view on need for energy security

Iran's Oil Minister Gholam-Hossein Nozari said Sunday that guaranteeing energy security at the national and international levels is of high and strategic importance for Iranian energy policy makers.

Nozari said at the inaugural session of the 12th International Seminar on Oil and Gas that energy security can be provided speedily through regional and international cooperation.

He said to achieve this goal, oil and gas rich states are required to strive to raise the recycling coefficient by protecting fields and preventing fall in output as well as expanding exploration and development activities of new oil and gas fields.

He said foreign investment and transfer of technical knowledge to the oil and gas rich states should be supported.

The minister also urged growing commercial transactions at the international level to meet part of global energy demand and use capital and technical know-how in a secure atmosphere.

Elsewhere in his address, Nozari suggested the oil and gas rich states and owners of oil and gas exploration, production and development technologies set up a center for oil and gas technologies to conduct constant research and study on different oil and gas technologies and transfer the know-how to the member and other energy rich states, thus facilitating energy supply process and eventually the process of guaranteeing global energy security.

He said establishment of such a center needs financial and political backing of member states and Iran, as the first applicant and member of the center, hereby announces its readiness to follow up the project.

The minister also stressed energy management in national economy.

"To guarantee sustainable energy security and make maximum use of national wealth, which should be transferred to future generations either in physical form or in the form of wealth and capital, sets major part of the mission of mainly the consumers of production centers." He said that positive and efficient political engagement of oil and gas rich states, especially in the Persian Gulf and Central Asia, on the one hand and political engagement of the developed states and capital owners and the energy supplying states on the other would play a key role in guaranteeing the policy of sustainable energy as guarantor of countries' sustainable development.

He said a atmosphere free of tension in light of proper political relations among states would prepare the ground for free flow of capital and technical knowledge among industrially developed consumer states and the energy supplying countries.

The minister said Iran is in efforts to prepare the ground for materialization of the great national aspiration by using the Oil Stabilization Fund and using efficient policies for selection of proper technologies.
