Lebanese sides fail to agree on new president
Lebanon, Politics, 10/23/2007
Head of the Future Bloc in the Lebanese Parliament MP Saad Hariri and Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri discussed a preliminary list of presidential candidates in light of the Maronite Church's initiative to reach accord over a candidate to hold elections within their constitutional deadline.
At a meeting in Berri's residence in Beirut, the two also held talks on Head of the Future Bloc's recent visits to the United States, France and Saudi Arabia.
Their talks apparently did not resolve the issue of finding a suitable presidential nominee acceptable to the opposition, as the BBC reported yesterday that "Berri said the assembly would now meet on 12 November to choose a new president," where the president's term of office expires in late November.
