Ahmadi-Nejad: Iran's position on Iraq very clear
Iraq-Iran-USA, Politics, 9/14/2007
Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadi-Nejad announced Wednesday that "Iran's stand towards Iraq is both quite clear, and totally friendly and brotherly."
Ahmadi-Nejad made the comment in an interview with the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) Channel One TV, adding, "the occupiers', particularly the US accusations on Iran's involvement in Iraq, are baseless."
He reiterated, "Iran's stand on Iraq is quite clear, but the occupiers keep making mistakes and repeating them anew, which is of course to their own loss." Ahmadi-Nejad emphasized there is no need for Iran to interfere in Iraq's internal affairs, adding, "Iran and Iraq are like a unified nation, and today the entire prominent Iraqi religious authorities and political personalities are Iran's friends."
He said, Iran enjoys excellent relations with the Iraq and "the Iranian nation has brotherly ties with their Iraqi brethren in faith." The Iranian President said "The occupiers are engaged in political disputes in their own countries, which is the reason why they accuse the others, trying to find scapegoats." He added "They have come from far away and occupied Iraq, not heeding our suggestions when we tell them there is nothing you can do against the Iraqi nation's will. All the same, they do not intend to accept their defeat, which is why they have resorted to telling such lies."
Ahmadi-Nejad said that the occupiers realize the real reason for insecurity in Iraq, but pretend not to understand, reiterating, "today the entire world politicians have confessed that the era for occupiers' power is coming to an end, but the occupiers themselves do not wish to realize that fact." He said, "It is based on those facts that we proposed that the regional nations would fill the power vacuum in the region mightily."
Head of Iran's Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) said the only way to save the occupiers, and particularly the US, is "their immediate evacuation of their forces from Iraq, adding, "They had better realize the longer they would remain in Iraq, the greater would be their problems there, since the Iraqi nation would get madder at them."
He said, "They think if they would get out of the region there would be lack of security, while I believe they are the factor fomenting insecurity, and if they would leave, the regional nations would live quite friendly, and ensure the regional security relying on unity."
Ahmadi-Nejad added, "We are ready to assist Iraq in restoration of peace and security, if they would ask us to do so, and we are also ready to assist the evacuation of the occupying forces from Iraq."
Iran's president Mahmoud Ahmadi-Nejad in an interview with British ITV was asked that "The Americans and the British say in Iraq they are engaged in a proxy war with Iran," to which he replied that "There are lots of things that are said. Iraq scene is a very interesting one. It is on one hand very catastrophic from the point of view that Iraq is an occupied country where hundreds of thousands of innocent people have got killed."
He added "On the other hand, funny statements, like the one you mentioned, are put forth. Those that have brought hundreds of thousands of military forces to Iraq begin accusing the others as soon as they realize they have faced big defeat in their confrontation with the Iraqi nation. Such accusations would no pave the path for the occupiers though. I guess the British have a better understanding of the situation and are acting more wisely, such as their recent evacuation of their forces from Basra."
He added "The Iranian and Iraqi nations have relations with roots that are thousands of years old. Today, the Iraqi government, Parliament, and top political officials have very friendly ties with us. We are hurt more than any other country in the world due to lack of stability and security in Iraq."
