Iran-UN, Politics, 8/27/2007
Iran's Ambassador and permanent representative in the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Ali Asghar Soltanieh conferred with IAEA Chief Mohamed ElBaradei today and presented an official note on agreement reached in Iran between visiting high ranking delegation of IAEA and Iranian officials concerning the ways to solve remaining issues.
The IAEA chief said that the agreement will be reflected in his upcoming report to the IAEA's governing council. The governing council will hold its next meeting early September in Vienna and ElBaradei's report to the council will be issued in the coming week.
Iran's Majlis Speaker Gholam-Ali Haddad-Adel today said that Iran will never withdraw from its right to pursue peaceful nuclear program.
He said Iran is fully ready to cooperate with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in order to prove the legal nature of its nuclear activities and that it has no intention to make use of nuclear energy for military purposes.
Iran-IAEA cooperation will also prove to the world that the US allegations against Iran are baseless, he added.
The IAEA rules and regulations pave the way for verification of Iran's peaceful nuclear program, Haddad-Adel noted. "We are determined to cooperate with the agency and believe that cooperation and negotiations are the only solutions to Iran's nuclear case," the Majlis speaker stressed.
He said that "If the IAEA refuses to defend our legitimate rights for making peaceful use of nuclear energy, Majlis will revise the country's cooperation with the agency."
On probable issuance of a new UNSC resolution and the response of the Iranian Majlis, he said Majlis has officially authorized the government to go ahead with uranium enrichment for peaceful purposes and the government is duty-bound to continue its work.
"We expect the IAEA to declare realities and not to be affected by political pressures exerted by the US and avoid damaging the legality of the international institute," he said.
The US opposition to Iran's nuclear activities is politically motivated, otherwise they never support the Israel's nuclear activities, he underlined. "The US seeks to impose its policies through hegemony and we try to resolve the issue through expansion of ties with other countries and never tolerate its hegemonic policies," he said.
Today, the Washington Post reported that "Iran has resolved U.N. questions about tests with plutonium, a key fuel for atomic bombs, and the International Atomic Energy Agency considers the matter closed."
Meantime, French President Nicolas Sarkozy today said that Iran's nuclear standoff should be resolved through diplomatic means. He called Iranian people as a great nation which does not deserve to be isolated. Ruling out any military action against Iran, the French president termed any possible bombardment of the country as a "catastrophe."
Also, North Korean Ambassador to Iran Kim Chong Ryong conferred yesterdday with the Head of Majlis. According to the Press Bureau of Majlis, the North Korean ambassador said North Korea and Iran are both confronting hegemonic policies of the US. North Korea fully supports Iran's peaceful nuclear activities, he said, adding that Iran has played a very positive and constructive role in restoring stability to the region.
Referring to the so-called six-party negotiations, he said the US has broken its promises and still continues its hostile policies visa-a-vis the North Korean nation.
"Since we do not trust the US, we are to maintain our nuclear deterrent policies," he said.
Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman Mohammad-Ali Hosseini yesterday stressed that there has been no halt in Iran's peaceful nuclear activities and that these activities are still going on. He announced that Tehran and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) have reached agreement on drawing up a modality and a framework on how to settle the remaining issues on Iran's peaceful nuclear program.
Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadi-Nejad had said on Saturday that Iran's remarkable success in peaceful nuclear activities have roots in capabilities, efforts and talent of its youth and the country is determined to never give up its nuclear rights.
"If the Iranian nation attain success to this end, the enemies' equations would be miscalculated and their propaganda campaign would be defused," he underlined. Their concern is that the Iranian nation with glorious historical civilization could act as a model for other nations, he said.
"With the help of Almighty God, we have overcome all difficulties and all except one or two bullying powers, have accepted and approved of a nuclear Iran," he said.
Iran is ready to hold training and educational courses in the filed of nuclear sciences for the NPT members under supervision of IAEA and within its governing rules and regulations, he said.
Pointing to Iran's ill-wishers, he said "We advise you to correct your mistakes in dealing with Iranian nation and take lessons from your mistakes and change your behavior with the nations," he said. All achievements of Iranian nation stem from their reliance on God and resistance, he said.
"The future belongs to all pious and committed youth and the efforts of our enemies goes to nowhere," concluded the president.
Iran's Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki had said Friday referring to Iran's peaceful nuclear program that reports by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) have indicated no diversion in Iran's peaceful activities.
