Iran-UN, Politics, 7/16/2007
Iran's Foreign Ministry Spokesman Mohammad Ali Hosseini said yesterday that the next round of talks between Iran and IAEA would be held by end of July.
He underlined that the IAEA's inspections would be conducted based on IAEA's Safeguard Agreement. Iran is to proceed with its cooperation with IAEA according to international rules and regulations within NPT protocols, he underlined.
On the first round of talks, he said Tehran and IAEA are to draw up a Modality Plan to resolve Iran's nuclear standoff within 60 days. In case the issue is not be resolved within 60 days, the two sides would decide on its extension, he pointed out.
On the next round of talks between Iran's top nuclear negotiator Ali Larijani and EU Foreign Policy Chief Javier Solana, he said the visit is definite but its exact time would be declared to public.
On resolutions issued by the United Nations Security Council, he said such measures would leave its impacts but "We are to choose a new path to keep us away from UNSC."
He said a suggestion by International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) chief Mohamed ElBaradei on direct talks between Iran and the US on nuclear issues can be considered. "ElBaradei's remark should be studied with more precision. Goals of the plan should be determined," he said. He added, "It is possible to examine aspects of the offer in future talks."
Hosseini said there is no "stop or suspension" in Iran's peaceful nuclear activities. "Iran's nuclear activities are continued within a codified and precise framework and are free from political ups and downs."
