Hosseini rejects US president allegations against Iran
Iran-Lebanon-USA, Politics, 7/16/2007

Iran's Foreign Ministry Spokesman Mohammad Ali Hosseini yesterday strongly refuted allegations made by the US president about Iran's alleged interference in Iraq and Lebanon.

In a speech on the anniversary of Lebanon's 33 day war with Israel, the US president put the blame on Iran and claimed that Lebanese Hizbullah as being under the control of Iran.

Since the Americans cannot justify their failures, they try to raise such allegations to cover up their mistakes, he said. "Unfortunately, the US does not desire to accept its mistakes in the past or try to correct them," he said, adding that the US by putting the blames on others cannot resolve its problems in Iraq.

The US officials had promised to prepare grounds for between kidnapped Iranian diplomats in Iraq and their families but they did not keep their words, he said.

Hosseini called on Iraqi and Red Cross officials to continue their efforts to arrange the meeting and help release the Iranian diplomats.

On recent news released by a Lebanese daily claiming that three out of four Iranian diplomats kidnapped about 25 years ago in Lebanon are still alive, he said existing evidence are proof of this claim.

Hosseini also said the US interacts with terrorist groups in Iraq.
"The US officials close their eyes to those involved in terrorist acts in Iraq," Hosseini told reporters.

He added, "I don't want to say where the US has interaction with Baathists but Iran quite aware of such issues."

Meantime, the US Department Of State spokesman Sean McCormack replied to a question today on the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps saying they are "technically an entity internal to Iran, but it does have, 'external arms' to it for example, like the Quds force. And we've talked about the negative role that the Quds force, for example, is playing in Iraq in supplying technology, training, other kinds of assistance to those individuals and groups involved with the EFP networks, as well as other militias that are responsible, in part, for the instability that you're seeing in Iran."

Iran's Foreign Ministry Spokesman Mohammad Ali Hosseini said yesterday in response to a question on the second round of Iran-US talks on Iraq, he said, "Iran is committed to principles and frameworks of the first round of talks. Iran's stance on the issue has not been changed." "Baqeri has said the Islamic Republic of Iran has no enthusiasm to talk with the US." Hosseini stressed the Iraqi government would hold consultations with Iran and the US to prepare grounds for holding the second round of talks between the two parties.
