Iran ambassador meets with Lebanese religious leader Fadlallah
Lebanon-Iran, Politics, 7/16/2007
Iran's Ambassador to Syria Mohammad-Hassan Akhtari held talks with prominent Shiite religious leader of Lebanon Muhammad Hossein Fadlallah in Damascus on Sunday.
The two sides exchanged views on regional developments including the crises in Iraq, Lebanon and Palestine. Fadlallah referred to the US President George W. Bush's recent allegations on the impact of American troops withdrawal from Iraq on Lebanon, noting regional issues including the events in Iraq, Palestine, Lebanon and Iran are interrelated.
Meanwhile, Iran enjoys particular status in the Middle East, he added. Pointing to peaceful nuclear program of Iran, he said, "Iran's nuclear dispute should be resolved through negotiations, and Iranian officials should deal with the issue vigilantly." On his part, the Iranian ambassador underlined the need for solidarity of the Islamic world, saying that paying attention to unity and solidarity among Muslim nations will help foil conspiracies of the US, Zionist regime and their allies.
