Iraq's president in Iran tomorrow
Iraq-Iran, Politics, 6/25/2007

Iraq's Ambassador to Iran Mohammad Majid al-Sheikh said today that the Iraqi President Jalal Talabani will head for Iran tomorrow.

He said that Talabani, heading a delegation, will hold talks with Iranian senior officials on "boosting relations" between Iran and Iraq.

Talabani's visit to Iran is for consultations on ways to stop bloodbath in Iraq, Rapporteur of Majlis national Security and Foreign Policy Commission Kazem Jalali said on today.

Jalali said that before anything Talabani's visit is aimed at helping end Iraqi critical situation and the humanitarian crisis.

The ambassador referred to the high-level ties between the two countries, saying Iran has established consulates in Basra, Karbala, Irbil and Sulaimaniya and Iraq has consulates in Ilam, Kermanshah, Ahvaz and Mashhad.

He also expressed hope that Iran-US discussions on Iraq would be beneficial for establishing security in Iraq, the region and the entire world.

"We prefer to form a joint security committee among Iran, Iraq and the US to help beef up security in Iraq, the Middle East and the world. Iran-US-Iraq tripartite negotiations are vital to stem the current humanitarian crisis and bloodbath in Iraq." Responding to a question on the protest gathering of relatives of Iranian pilgrims seized in Iraq, he noted, "We will convey their demands to the Iraqi government through diplomatic channels, however, I advise Iranian pilgrims to avoid entry into Iraq without visa, because of its security problems."

Majid al-Sheikh further noted that President Talabani will see Chairman of the Supreme Islamic Council of Iraq and the United Iraqi Alliance Abd al-Aziz al-Hakim, who is making recovery from illness at a hospital in Tehran.
