Egyptian contacts to prepare for international Quartet meeting in Cairo
Egypt-Regional, Politics, 6/12/2007
"There were Egyptian contacts with the international Quartet group upon directives from President Hosni Mubarak," said Ambassador Suleiman Awwad, the Egyptian Presidential spokesman.
There were also contacts with the Arab parties to the Liaison Group stemming from Riyadh summit regarding the forthcoming meeting of the international Quartet group in Egypt this month.
The Egyptian contacts aimed at realizing a tangible progress, said Suleiman Awwad.
It should not be a mere meeting to pick pictures and photos and make the headlines and machetes of the newspapers, said the presidential spokesman.
"President Hosni Mubarak yesterday confirmed Egypt's constant stances regarding Jerusalem," said Awwad.
He further stressed that the next Quartet meeting should necessarily achieve a real progress, while its outcomes must be proportionate with the hazards of the status quo.
