The Egyptian president decides to send relief aid to Lebanon

Egypt's President Hosni Mubarak is spearheading a large scale move at the Arab, African and International arenas with the aim of finding urgent, fair and peaceful solutions to crises which have plagued the region and which drag its peoples off the march of development and reform.

To this effect, the President presided over a ministerial meeting during which he ordered dispatching more relief aid and medicines to Lebanon in response to calls by the Lebanese government.

This medical aid will help the Lebanese citizens who were affected by the battles between the army and Fath Al-Islam organization.

Ambassador Suleiman Awwad, the Presidential Spokesman said Egypt is maintaining contacts with all Lebanese factions and powers adding however that Egypt has no agenda in Lebanon. He added that Egypt was keen to maintain the independence of Lebanon far from any foreign interference.

He also said Egypt rejects politicalization of the international court which will investigate the assassination of former Lebanese Premier Rafiq Al-Hariri.

The Presidential spokesman also said Egypt rejects jumping to conclusions by leveling charges against Syria or any other party.

An Egyptian C-130 aircraft laden with foodstuffs, medical aid and covers arrived in Beirut yesterday for helping easing the sufferings of the Lebanese people.

Latest reports from Lebanese said that the Lebanese army troops yesterday showered the outposts of Fath Al-Islam organization at Nahr Al-Bared camp with salvos of heavy shells and rockets.
