Mubarak: New Valley a development plan priorities

Within the framework of his field tours of governorates in order to push forward the wheel of investment and development in the various domains, Egypt's President Hosni Mubarak yesterday visited East Owainat and Dakhla regions in the New Valley Governorate.
The President was welcomed with standing ovation on the part of citizens during his inspection of projects in the two regions.
During the visit, the President stressed the need for linking East Owainat to the unified grid as this would help double rates of accomplishment, land reclamation and production.
The President inspected the National Service Agency farms which are affiliated to the Armed Forces where he was briefed on the rates of accomplishment in different cultivations.
The President agreed to appropriate 10,000 feddans for expanding the agricultural projects and animal breeding stations which are carried out by the armed forces. The President gave directives for building East Owainat housing city for absorbing 50,000 citizens from the New Valley.
President Mubarak yesterday visited East Owainat development project that aim at reclaiming 240,000 feddans.
The project is being implemented by the Armed forces in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture and a number of investment companies. So far 50,000 feddans have been reclaimed.
The President attended celebrations of the wheat and barley harvest season and toured the area that produces besides the two crops, medical and aromatic herbs, mangoes and citrus fruit.
He also visited the agricultural products fair of the farms of the Armed Forces national company.
The President was accompanied during his tour by Prime Minister Ahmed Nazif, Defence and Military Production Minister Field Marshal Hussein Tantawi in addition to Minister of State for Military Production Sayed Meshal and the ministers of Water Resources and Irrigation, Electricity and Energy, Information, Housing, Industry and Trade, transport and agriculture.
At the main conference hall of the Armed Forces National Company, President Mubarak listened to an explanation by the director of the Armed Forces National Services Agency Major General Nader Qoura on the stages of establishing the farms and plans of developing and expanding them in the future.
President Mubarak watched a documentary on the capabilities and the farms and stages of reclaiming and cultivating them with high quality products.
Afterwards, the President toured the farms and inspected their products including barley and wheat.
The President voiced admiration of the production which reached 20 ardebs per feddan of wheat and 25 ardebs per feddan of barley.
The President also toured farms cultivated with medical and aromatic herbs needed by world and local markets, as well as orchard of mango, summer oranges and lemons. Mubarak also inspected products displayed by the company which were organically cultivated without any chemicals. President Mubarak inspected the sheep farm of the Armed Forces National Company.
The Director of the Armed Forces National Services Agency Major General Nader Qoura said 10,000 feddans were reclaimed and cultivated in farm no. 21 of the company including 5,000 feddans cultivated with strategic crops such as wheat, barley and corn.
He added that 4,426 feddans were cultivated with fruit and 1,584 feddans were cultivated with other crops and vegetables in farm No.2.
