Iran critical of Russian handling of Bushehr power plant

Iranian public opinion is critical of Russian handling of Bushehr power plant, Iranian lawmaker said on Monday.

He said that more than 60 foreign companies have applied for the bid for construction of two new nuclear power plants in Iran.
Head of Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Alaeddin Boroujerdi said in a meeting with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Losyukov that Iran is dissatisfied with Russian handling of construction of Bushehr nuclear power plant.

"The experience of Bushehr nuclear power plant with Russia has not be positive and good," said Boroujerdi.

As the first experience in cooperation with Russia for nuclear power plant, Iran is not satisfied and the public opinion is negative toward the Russian performance, he added.

He said that the dispute on Iranian nuclear program would be solved sooner or later and the Islamic Republic of Iran favors the dispute to be settled on the basis of talks and understanding within framework of international regulations.

He complained that Russia did not use its extensive potentials to complete construction of Bushehr power plant on time and said relations between Iran and Russia should expand in proportionate to their extensive potentials.

He said Tehran-Moscow relations and cooperation are of high significance regarding their significant impact on the region and the world and conditions today necessitate extensive cooperation between the two sides in many regional issues.

Tehran-Moscow relations, especially in the parliamentary field, need to be given an impetus, he added.

He said Americans, who thought once upon time that they can assume control of everything in Iraq with energy, have today come to the feeling that they had taken many wrong steps.
