Ahmadi-Nejad meets Iraqi Kurdish official: groups should restore security, welfare

Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadi-Nejad today held talks with Iraqi Kurdistan Administration prime minister Barzani on regional developments.
President Ahmadi-Nejad referred to firm determination and efforts of the Iraqi government and nation to go ahead with progress and said the Iraqi groups should identify "the depth of plots hatched by the enemies who are determined to exploit the interests of Iraqi nation and damage the prestige of noble people of Iraq."
He called on the Iraqis to exercise wisdom, unity and vigilance to help restore national security and welfare. Given the current situation in Iraq as very sensitive, he said Iraqis should put aside their differences and avoid sectarian violence and spare no efforts to thwart plots of the enemies.
The Iraqi people mainly the Kurdish population are oppressed and suffered a lot, he said, adding that the Iraqi people are very brave and vigilant and in case the occupiers pull out of the country, they are capable enough to administer their own affairs.
Iran feels no limit to extend assistance to the Iraqi people and its Kurdish population in particular, he said, adding that Iran is ready to cooperate in various construction projects as transfer of gas, electricity and water to Iraq and make investment in various projects in the country.
Iraqi Kurdistan administration prime minister Barzani, for his part, lauded Iran's humanitarian aid to the Kurdish people of Iraq and lauded the high morale of the late Imam Khomeini "who belongs to all oppressed Muslims round the globe." The current relations between Iran and Iraq are very consolidated, strategic and historical, he said, adding the the Kurdistan province of Iraq should benefit from Iran's invaluable achievements at various sectors to promote reconstruction and development of Iraq.
Highlighting existing potentials and capabilities in Kurdistan of Iraq, he said the Kurdistan province calls for Iran to invest in various sectors mainly in industry, agriculture and energy.
