Iran says Iraq pressure has changed US tone towards it
Iraq-Iran-USA, Politics, 5/1/2007

Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman Mohammad-Ali Hosseini today in reaction to the remarks of US President George w. Bush, said that given its ancient civilization and culture, Iran has always selected its own approach to national progress independently and without the need to seek foreigners' advice.

Concerning Bush's recommendation through his secretary of state about the Iranian nation's way of progress, he said that when it comes to development of scientific technology and national welfare, Iran rejects any unjust and improper proposal.

Meanwhile, about Bush's remarks about the need for installation of missile system in Europe to contain Iran's threats, he noted, "It is clear to the world public opinion, in particular that of the US and the American congressmen and senators that such claims are fake and nonrealistic. Besides, such claims can hardly be fruitful to US officials as propaganda."

Hosseini said that Russia and many European states have realized that within the framework of its bullying and unilateral approach, the US has challenged their independence, security and national interests.

Government spokesman Gholam Hossein Elham said yesterday that US has changed tone in run-up to talks with Iran. The spokesman said that the change of tone is the outcome of Iran's major scientific progress in recent years and the US failure in Iraq.

"Iran's major scientific achievements during the past several years, the importance given to the country both by Iraq and the entire region and the halt of the US war machine in Iraq were the reasons behind the change of the US literature and tone with Iran," Elham said.

Given the reasons, he added, Iran has decided to attend the upcoming conference on Iraq security in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, to help restore security of the Iraqi people.

Meantime, the Iran-Iraq parliamentary friendship group in Majlis condemned construction of Separation Wall in Baghdad by occupiers and called this step in direction of Israeli's failed plans to create disunity and separation between religious and ethnic groups in Iraq.

According to Majlis Media Department report on Monday, the group, by issuing a statement said, "President Bush government, which promised freedom, prosperity, and progress to Iraqi people, now is unable to maintain security even in the capital."

The statement said, "The US statesmen are hatching new plots every day against Iraqi Muslim people." It said the parliamentary group is confident that the new plot of constructing separation wall to create disunity between Shia and Sunni Muslims will fail again.

Political Advisor to the United Iraqi Alliance Mohsen Hakim said on Sunday that the US should obtain mutual understanding with Iran to resolve its problems in Iraq.

Hakim said that given the spiritual influence of Iran in components of Iraqi people including the Shiites, Sunnis, Kurds, the US needs the support of the Islamic Republic to overcome difficulties in the Arab country.

"Resolving differences between Iran and the US on Iraq is considered the key to resolving other issues," he added.

"Today, Iraqi politicians make efforts to resolve the differences among certain foreign powers and neighboring countries of Iraq, because the goal is in line with national interests and will help establish security in the country."

Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman Mohammad-Ali Hosseini had said Sunday that Iran has no problem with cultural, economic and sports exchanges with the Americans, saying this in response to a question about the invitation of Iranian athletes by the US National Olympic Committee to participate in the warm-up camps in the US.

The spokesman underlined that Iran has no problem in this regard, provided Iranian sportsmen are treated properly and respectfully.
