Egypt welcomes cooperation with Iran
Egypt-Iran, Politics, 5/1/2007
Egypt's Foreign Minister Ahmed Aboul Gheit Sunday in Cairo said his country welcomes cooperation with Iran to ease tension and settle regional problems including ongoing developments in Iraq and Lebanon.
Asked whether Iran's participation in the upcoming international meeting on Iraq security to be held in Egypt's Sharm el-Sheikh would improve Tehran-Cairo ties, he said the two sides enjoy stable bilateral ties.
Undoubtedly, expansion of mutual relations would lead to positive outcome for the entire region and the Islamic world, he added.
The minister stated that recent visits by former Iranian president and Head of the Center for Dialogue Among Civilizations and Cultures Mohammad Khatami and Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki to Egypt proved stable ties between the two countries.
The Sharm el-Sheikh meeting is scheduled to be held on May 3-4 and the Iraqi government has repeatedly invited Iran to take part in it. Iran's foreign minister is scheduled to attend the meeting.
Iran's Secretary of Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Larijani said in Baghdad on Sunday that Iran will attend Sharm el-Sheikh meeting to support the Iraqi government and nation.
