Larijani: Russia should not link politics to Bushehr nuclear project
Iran-Russia, Politics, 4/23/2007

Iran's Secretary of Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Larijani today referred to Iran-Russia new financial agreement on Bushehr nuclear power plant and said that Russia had better not link political issues with this project.

"As I said earlier, given economic concerns over Bushehr power plant project, an Iranian delegation visited Moscow recently to solve the problem. The visiting delegation included Deputy head of Iran's Atomic Energy Organization (IAEO) Ahmad Fayyazbakhsh and managing director Iran's Atomic Energy Production and Development Company," he added.

Larijani noted that Fayyazbakhsh and the Managing Director of the Russian contractor, Atom Stroi Export, Sergei Shmatko signed a new financial agreement on Sunday. Larijani said that during the trip of the Iranian delegation to Russia, economic understanding was reached on the issue between the two sides.

Turning to talks with his Russian counterpart, Larijani said that the project had no political target. "It will be beneficial to Russia not to involve politics in this project, given that this can leave its effect on Iran's future nuclear power plant projects," he added.
